Customized Home Elevator for an Australian Residence: COOL-100 Control, E120 Doors and Low-Noise Design

This Australian residential project required a home elevator configured around specific component, structural, interior, and acoustic requirements rather than a standard package.

The customer specified the control system, door brand and fire-resistance requirement, interior style, structural materials, and residential noise expectations. EKCNE coordinated these requirements at the component and system levels before production.

The resulting elevator is a 400 kg, three-stop machine-room-less system using VVVF gearless traction, steel-belt suspension, reinforced structural components, and multiple vibration and noise-control measures.

Project Overview

  • Project market: Australia
  • Application: Private residence
  • Rated load: 400 kg
  • Floors / stops / doors: 3 / 3 / 3
  • Rated speed: 0.3 m/s
  • Reserved shaft: Approx. 1800 × 1800 mm
  • Car size: Approx. 1150 × 1350 × 2300 mm
  • Door opening: Approx. 900 × 2100 mm
  • Door type: Automatic center-opening
  • Pit depth: Approx. 250 mm
  • Overhead: Approx. 3950 mm
  • Travel height: Approx. 6520 mm
  • Drive: VVVF gearless traction
  • Machine room: Machine-room-less
  • Roping: 2:1
  • Main power: 380 V, three phase, 50 Hz
  • Lighting power: 220 V, single phase, 50 Hz

The elevator was therefore configured from the confirmed project requirements rather than selected from a fixed residential elevator package.

Customer-Specified COOL-100 Control System

The customer specifically requested the Hpmont COOL-100 control system.

For overseas residential projects, the controller can be an important project input because distributors, contractors, and local elevator companies may already have maintenance experience with a particular control platform.

EKCNE incorporated the specified controller into the elevator configuration before production. This allowed the control platform to be coordinated with the traction system and other project-specific equipment instead of being selected independently after the main system had been defined.

Fermator Doors and E120 Fire-Resistance Requirement

The customer also specified Fermator doors together with an E120 fire-resistance requirement.

The door system was therefore coordinated around the specified brand, automatic center-opening configuration, entrance dimensions, and required fire-resistance specification.

The final door opening is approximately 900 mm wide by 2100 mm high, providing the dimensional reference for the entrance arrangement within the residential layout.

Reinforced Structure Around Critical Load Areas

Structural configuration was another project-specific requirement.

EKCNE reinforced several areas associated with traction-machine support, guide-rail support, and car-floor structure:

  • 6 mm upper beam
  • 5 mm guide-rail brackets
  • 5 mm guide-rail connecting components
  • 12 mm traction-machine support base
  • Additional triangular reinforcement at the machine support
  • Reinforced double-layer car platform
  • Anti-vibration rubber between car-floor structural layers

The 12 mm machine support base and triangular reinforcement increase the structural support around the traction-machine connection. Reinforced guide-rail supports and the upper beam provide the supporting structure required by the confirmed configuration.

The double-layer car platform and rubber isolation layer also form part of the project’s vibration-control strategy.

Steel-Belt Gearless Traction

The elevator uses a gearless traction machine with steel-belt suspension.

For this project, the traction arrangement forms part of the broader approach to residential ride and vibration control. It works together with the reinforced structure and isolation measures rather than serving as a standalone acoustic solution.

The machine-room-less configuration also eliminates the need for a separate machine room, allowing the traction system to be incorporated within the available residential building arrangement.

Multi-Layer Noise and Vibration Control

Residential acoustic performance depends on the complete elevator installation rather than one component.

The project combines several measures:

  • Steel-belt traction
  • Gearless drive
  • Reinforced double-layer car platform
  • Anti-vibration rubber between structural layers
  • Nano sound-insulation panels around the car exterior
  • Reinforced guide-rail and load-bearing supports

The project was designed around an operating sound-level target of approximately 40–45 dB under suitable installation and test conditions.

Actual on-site acoustic performance can vary with shaft construction, installation quality, measurement conditions, and the surrounding building environment. The project target should therefore not be treated as a universal noise level for all installations.

Customized Interior for the Residence

The customer also required a non-standard interior configuration.

Interior elements can be coordinated with the technical dimensions before production, including:

  • Ceiling design
  • Lighting
  • Wall panels
  • Door finish
  • Flooring
  • Decorative details

Coordinating these elements during the engineering stage helps prevent conflicts between interior finishes, available car dimensions, door interfaces, lighting, and other equipment.

Project Confirmation Before Manufacturing

Custom residential elevators require the technical specification to be confirmed before production because component selections can affect the complete system configuration.

For this project, EKCNE coordinated:

  • Shaft and car dimensions
  • Control system
  • Door system
  • E120 requirement
  • Drive configuration
  • Structural specifications
  • Interior design
  • Electrical conditions
  • Required operating functions

This process is particularly relevant to distributors, contractors, and local elevator companies working with specified components or installation conditions.

EKCNE operates a 66,000 m² manufacturing facility and produces complete elevator systems and elevator components under standardized production and quality-management processes. The company’s products support CE requirements, while its management systems include ISO certification.

Factory Inspection and Trial Assembly

Customized elevator equipment needs to be checked as a system before shipment.

After manufacturing, the equipment undergoes factory quality inspection. The elevator car is also trial-assembled to verify the fit, matching, and appearance of the main car components.

For this project, trial assembly provided an additional check because the equipment combined a specified door system, customized interior, structural modifications, and other project-specific components.

Project Value

This Australian project illustrates how residential elevator customization can extend beyond cabin appearance.

The customer specified the Hpmont COOL-100 controller, Fermator door system with an E120 requirement, structural configuration, interior design, and acoustic target. EKCNE then coordinated these inputs with the traction system, supporting structure, vibration-control measures, and manufacturing process.

For distributors and local elevator companies, this type of project-specific configuration allows a home elevator to be developed around specified components, available installation conditions, and residential requirements while maintaining coordination from engineering through factory inspection.

FAQ

Can customers specify the home elevator control system?

Yes. In this Australian project, the customer specified the Hpmont COOL-100 controller, which was incorporated into the overall system configuration before production.

Can customers specify the door brand and fire-resistance requirement?

Yes. This project uses customer-specified Fermator doors with an E120 fire-resistance requirement. Door dimensions, opening configuration, and the specified requirement were confirmed during the technical stage.

Why were structural components reinforced?

The traction-machine support, upper beam, guide-rail supports, and car platform are structural parts of the elevator system. The project configuration included reinforcement in these areas to meet the specified structural requirements and support the overall traction and guide arrangement.

How does this project address residential elevator noise?

The project combines gearless steel-belt traction, structural reinforcement, a double-layer car platform, anti-vibration rubber, and acoustic insulation. These measures form a combined approach to vibration and sound control rather than relying on a single component.

Can the home elevator interior be customized?

Yes. Ceiling, lighting, wall panels, door finishes, flooring, and other decorative elements can be coordinated with the technical configuration before production.

What is checked before an overseas elevator is shipped?

The equipment undergoes factory inspection, and customized car components are trial-assembled to check fit, matching, and appearance before packing and shipment.
