Nigeria Hotel Project: A 630kg Commercial Elevator Running on Solar Power

Powering a commercial hotel elevator usually requires a robust industrial power grid.
But what happens when the hotel runs entirely on solar energy?

Recently, a client building a 6-story eco-hotel in Nigeria approached us with a unique electrical challenge.
They had a standard 1800mm × 1800mm shaft ready for a Machine Room-Less (MRL) passenger elevator.

However:

  • The hotel was powered by a solar energy system
  • Only 220V single-phase power was available

Standard 630kg passenger elevators require:

  • 380V power
  • Or 220V 3-phase power

Running a commercial-grade system on single-phase solar power is extremely rare and technically challenging.

Here is how our electrical engineering team made it possible.

Nigeria Hotel Project: A 630kg Commercial Elevator Running on Solar Power

Overcoming the 220V Single-Phase Barrier

Most manufacturers would either reject this project or require a full electrical system upgrade.

As a direct manufacturer with an in-house electrical R&D team, we engineered a custom solution.

We:

  • Customized the frequency inverter
  • Optimized the control system

This allowed:

  • Stable operation on 220V single-phase power
  • Smooth lifting of a 630kg cabin (approx. 8 passengers)
  • Full compatibility with the hotel’s solar power system

Engineered for Grid Instability

In solar-powered environments or unstable grids, electrical protection is critical.

We integrated two key safeguards to ensure system stability and passenger safety.

Heavy-Duty Voltage Stabilizer

Solar output can fluctuate due to environmental conditions.

Our solution:

  • Integrated a custom voltage regulator
  • Filtered power spikes and drops

This ensures:

  • Clean and stable power supply
  • Protection for the elevator control system

ARD (Automatic Rescue Device)

In the event of full power loss:

  • The ARD system activates immediately
  • The elevator moves to the nearest floor
  • Doors open safely

This guarantees:

  • No passengers are trapped
  • Safe evacuation under all conditions

Maximizing the 1800 × 1800mm Shaft (MRL Design)

In addition to electrical innovation, the mechanical layout was optimized.

Using a Machine Room-Less (MRL) design, we:

  • Installed the compact motor inside the shaft
  • Eliminated the need for a rooftop machine room

Benefits:

  • Reduced construction cost
  • Maximized usable building space
  • Maintained a spacious 630kg cabin
